New LH Rules: Exciting Opportunities for Young Riders

At the LH National Assembly held in Borgarnes on October 25–26, significant changes were approved to enhance the participation of young riders in equestrian competitions. One of the key updates is that any unused slots allocated to riding clubs will now be transferred to the open seating list. For example, if a club is entitled to send five competitors but only sends three, the two unused slots will become available for others. This ensures that youth classes at Landsmót are always fully represented.
Another decision was to introduce the A-Class Youth competition as a showcase event at Landsmót. This has not been allowed previously and provides a new platform for young riders to demonstrate their skills.
In gæðingakeppni (riding competitions), further changes were made. Teenagers and children are now allowed to compete in the A-Class Youth division. Previously, they were required to compete in the adult A-Class if they wanted to participate in this discipline. However, this change applies only to the A-Class Youth; other divisions will continue to follow traditional age-based categories.
Additionally, it was confirmed that young riders can now compete for their riding club, regardless of the horse owner’s club affiliation. This simplifies registration and participation in gæðingakeppni.
The updated regulations for gæðingakeppni and Landsmót will officially come into effect on April 1, aiming to create a more accessible and streamlined competition experience.
