Export of Icelandic horses in 2024: Key figures and insights

In 2024, a total of 1,318 Icelandic horses were exported. Data from WorldFengur provides valuable insights into their age, training status, and value.
The ages of exported horses show diversity, with the majority (58%) being between 4-8 years old. Horses younger than 4 years accounted for 22%, while those older than 8 years made up 20%.
A striking detail is that 90% of yearling colts exported were uncastrated, according to WorldFengur. Only 15% of the exported horses had been presented at breeding evaluations in Iceland.
The average price of exported horses in 2024 was approximately 1,056,113 ISK.
Additionally, 33% of the exported horses had recorded DNA samples for pedigree confirmation, with 89% of those fully verified through both parental lines.
These figures highlight important aspects of Icelandic horse breeding and export while paving the way for further analysis of trends. As WorldFengur continues to develop, the availability of real-time data is expected to further enhance breeding efforts and provide deeper insights into the dynamics of Icelandic horse exports.
